Brand Verdicts Methodology

Canva Verdict (2026)

The easiest design tool for non-designers, with a free tier most people never outgrow and a Pro plan that is fair value, if not refundable.

Overall is the weighted mean of the five rows, adjusted by a small slug-seeded offset so that brands never line up in a false staircase, and capped at 9.8. Full working on the Methodology page (v2.1).

Main findings

  1. Canva Pro lists at US$144 a year for one person and Canva Business at US$250 a year per person, before tax; Canva Teams is closed to new sign-ups.
  2. The free plan includes 5GB of storage, one Brand Kit limited to three colors, and up to 20 standard or premium AI uses.
  3. AI allowances are capped by tier (Pro: up to 200 premium or 20 ultra uses), and the pricing page warns actual usage “may be lower”.
  4. Canva owns Affinity, the former Serif design suite, which is now free for individuals on Mac and Windows; Canva premium plans unlock its AI tools.
  5. Canva Print damage and defect claims must be reported within 30 days of delivery, and the remedy is a reprint or a full or partial refund.

What you are buying

Canva is an Australian company, headquartered in Sydney, that sells a browser and app-based design editor built around templates. It covers social posts, presentations, documents, video, whiteboards, simple websites and print. Plans run Free, Pro (one person), Business (per person, replacing the old Teams plan), and Enterprise, with free versions for K-12 education and eligible nonprofits. Its AI tools are metered by plan through a monthly allowance. Canva Print turns designs into business cards, flyers, apparel and other physical goods shipped to your door. In 2024 Canva bought Serif, maker of the Affinity apps, and now gives Affinity away to individuals. The core buyer is a small business, marketer, teacher or student who needs good-looking output without design training.

Line-by-line verdicts

6 items. Each chip is a per-product call and can differ from the brand verdict.

Canva Free BUY

Free for one person with no time limit. It includes the editor, a large template library, 5GB of cloud storage, a single Brand Kit restricted to three colors, and up to 20 standard or premium AI uses. That covers most personal and occasional small-business work. The friction is the mix of free and paid assets in search results: an App Store reviewer complains that premium images are hard to tell apart from free ones, and several Trustpilot reviewers ask for more free templates and a free background remover. You can do a great deal here before paying anything.

StrengthEnough templates and tools for most occasional design needs
WeaknessPremium assets mixed into search make free options harder to find

Canva Pro BUY

Lists at US$144 a year for one person, before tax, with a free trial before billing. Pro adds the full premium template and stock library, background remover, 100GB of storage, five Brand Kits, resizing across formats, and an AI allowance of up to 200 premium or 20 ultra uses. The pricing page is blunt that only one person may use a Pro account, so sharing a login breaks the terms. App Store pricing differs from the web, with several monthly and yearly entries listed. For anyone producing designs weekly, this is fair value against Adobe’s subscriptions.

StrengthFull template library, background remover and resizing for one fee
WeaknessStrictly one user; AI allowances run out on heavy use

Canva Business CONSIDER

Lists at US$250 a year per person and replaced Canva Teams, which the pricing page says is no longer available for new sign-ups or upgrades. It adds 500GB of storage, up to 100 Brand Kits with approval workflows, team templates and a larger AI allowance of up to 400 premium or 40 ultra uses. Billing is pay-as-you-grow per seat. For a team of five the annual bill is substantial, and third-party pricing guides report Teams customers facing higher bills after the move to per-seat pricing. Buy it for brand control and approvals, not for templates you could get on Pro.

StrengthBrand Kits with approvals keep a team on-brand
WeaknessPer-seat pricing gets expensive quickly for larger teams

Canva Enterprise CONSIDER

Priced by sales with no published figure. Enterprise adds 1TB of storage, up to 1,000 Brand Kits with tiered approvals, single sign-on and admin controls, plus a demo instead of a free trial. The pricing page says priority support requires at least 150 contracted seats, which is the clearest statement in Canva’s materials of how support is tiered. Large marketing teams standardizing on Canva will find it capable. Smaller firms that want faster support than the self-serve Help Assistant will be disappointed to learn it sits behind a seat threshold they cannot reach.

StrengthLarge-scale brand governance and SSO
WeaknessPriority support needs 150 or more contracted seats

Canva Print CONSIDER

Canva Print sends finished designs to production as business cards, flyers, posters, stickers, apparel and more, priced per product at checkout. The help center says issues such as damage, misprints or wrong quantities must be reported within 30 days of delivery, with photos, and Canva will reprint at no cost or refund in full or in part. Orders can be changed or cancelled only within two hours of placing them, and delivery times are described as estimates. A Trustpilot reviewer described a small, poorly packaged book, and another reported an order still missing after a month.

StrengthDesign and print in one place with reprints for defects
WeaknessTwo-hour cancellation window and delivery dates are only estimates

Affinity BUY

Affinity, the professional design suite Canva acquired with Serif, is now a single app for vector design, photo editing and page layout, and its site says it is free for individuals. It runs natively on Mac (Apple silicon and Intel) and Windows; an iPad version is listed as coming soon. Canva premium subscribers can unlock AI tools inside it. For anyone who has outgrown Canva’s template editor and does not want an Adobe subscription, this is a strong free option. Organizations needing SSO must go through Canva Enterprise or Education, and long-term pricing intentions are not stated.

The small print, summarized

ShippingDigital plans download free; Canva Print delivery dates are estimates
ReturnsPaid fees not refunded except where law requires; requests reviewed via support
Warranty / guaranteePrint defects or damage: reprint or refund if reported within 30 days
SupportHelp Center and AI Help Assistant; priority 24/7 support only on large Enterprise contracts
Payment optionsCards online; App Store purchases are refunded by Apple
Subscription / cancellationMonthly or yearly; paid features continue until the billing period ends

Values are short phrases taken from the brand's own pages at the time of the last update. "Not stated" means the desk could not find the policy in writing.

Caveats

  • The terms treat fees already paid as non-refundable except where the law says otherwise, so an unwanted annual renewal depends on support’s discretion.
  • Support for Free, Pro and Business users routes through an AI Help Assistant that Canva itself says may give inaccurate answers; Trustpilot reviewers ask for a human agent.
  • AI allowances are capped per plan and the pricing page warns real usage “may be lower” depending on the task, so heavy AI users can run out mid-month.
  • Canva Print orders can only be cancelled within two hours, and Trustpilot includes reports of late or missing print deliveries.

Review themes

Canva is one of the few brands in this category that scores well on both platforms. The App Store listing sits at 4.9 from millions of ratings, and Trustpilot shows a “Great” 4.0 from several thousand reviews. Praise focuses on ease of use, the template range and how quickly a non-designer can produce something presentable; several reviewers mention fast replies from support.

The complaints are consistent but narrow. A large minority of Trustpilot reviews are one-star, mostly about billing, refunds refused or only partly granted, and print orders that arrived late, small or poorly packaged. Older App Store reviews describe lag and crashes in long video projects. Some users want a human support agent rather than an automated assistant. Canva has not replied to negative Trustpilot reviews.

If not Canva, then

Adobe Express

Pick this if you already pay for Creative Cloud and want templates tied to Photoshop and Adobe Fonts.

Figma

Pick this if you design interfaces or need precise layout and developer handoff rather than templates.

Microsoft Designer

Pick this if you have Microsoft 365 and want quick AI-generated graphics without another subscription.

Verdict

Canva does what it promises better than anyone: it turns people with no design training into people who can ship a decent flyer, deck or social post in minutes. The free plan carries most users, and Pro is fair value for anyone designing weekly. The caveats are about money, not the product. Paid fees are not refunded as a rule, support starts with an AI assistant, and team pricing climbs fast. Start free, use the trial, and buy Pro when you hit a wall. Verdict: BUY.

Brand verdict: BUY 8.0/10, grade B+.
