Key findings
The Compressive High-Rise Legging lists at $108 in the US with three inseams and sizes XXS to 6XL, and carries more than 18,000 on-site reviews.
Mail-in refunds carry a $7 shipping and restocking fee; exchanges, drop-off returns and store credit are free, despite a site banner promising ‘hassle free’ returns.
Underwear and socks are refundable only on a customer’s first such purchase; after that they are final sale and never exchangeable.
The about page publishes Bureau Veritas PFAS testing and OEKO-TEX certification for its core fabrics, more disclosure than most activewear brands give.
Several recent one-star reviews on the Paloma bra and Compressive legging describe a strong chemical smell that persisted after washing.
What you are buying
Girlfriend Collective is a Seattle activewear brand founded in 2016 by Ellie and Quang Dinh, which built its name on leggings made from recycled plastic bottles. The range now runs across five core fabrics (Compressive, FLOAT, ReSet, Luxe and SuperTrack): leggings, bike and run shorts, sports bras, unitards, tanks, a smaller intimates line and some outerwear. Sizes run from XXS to 6XL on most core styles, wider than many rivals. The brand runs ReGirlfriend, a take-back scheme with SuperCircle that pays $10 in credit per Girlfriend item returned for reuse or recycling, a points-based loyalty program, and a 1 percent donation to a nonprofit chosen at checkout. Prices sit below Lululemon but above mass-market activewear. It suits buyers who weigh materials and sizing range as heavily as performance.

Compressive High-Rise Legging BUY
The brand’s best seller, $108 in the US, made from recycled bottles (25 per pair, by the brand’s count), described as squat-proof, and sold in 23.75, 28 and 31-inch inseams from XXS to 6XL. On-site reviews number more than 18,000 and average about 4.7 out of 5. The critical minority is consistent: they run slightly small, some find the fabric hot or plasticky in heat, and a July 2026 reviewer who has owned the brand since its Kickstarter days says new pairs arrived with a chemical smell that did not wash out. Order your usual size and one up, then return the loser by exchange to avoid the fee.
StrengthThree inseams and XXS–6XL sizing with a very deep review base
WeaknessRuns small; hot in summer; some recent smell complaints
Billed as the brand’s number one bra, a long-line racerback at $68 with more than 15,000 reviews averaging close to 4.8. Most reviewers are A to D cups, and the satisfied ones like the compression and the look with matching leggings. The one-star reviews explain who should look elsewhere: runners who found it unsupportive, larger-busted buyers who found it painfully tight, and a March 2026 reviewer who received two bras with a bad smell that worsened after washing. One reviewer called it a binder rather than a bra. Fine for yoga and lifting; not a running bra for most.
StrengthComfortable compression for low and medium-impact training
WeaknessTight and under-supportive for running or fuller busts
A compressive bike short with an 8.5-inch inseam, $68 in the US, and the highest average rating of the products read, close to 4.8 across about 6,000 reviews. Owners praise how it stays put. The fit attribute on Okendo leans toward ‘runs small’ more than any other item checked, and the low reviews are about thighs: legs that feel like a tourniquet, or a pair that would not go past the knee in a usual size. Older reviews mention lighter colours being see-through. Size up if you have muscular thighs, and favour darker shades.
StrengthStays in place and is the best-rated product in the core range
WeaknessLeg openings run tight; light colours have drawn see-through complaints
The lightweight alternative to Compressive at the same $108, aimed at hot days and lounging, with an internal pocket and two inseams. It rates lower than Compressive, around 4.6 across some 6,000 reviews. The low ratings repeat three points: the fabric is much thinner than Compressive, it can slide down during running or yoga, and sizing differs from the brand’s other leggings. It suits warm climates, travel and low-intensity sessions. Charging the same price as the brand’s sturdier flagship for a thinner fabric is a hard sell if you plan to train hard in them.
StrengthLight, cool fabric for hot weather and travel
WeaknessThinner and less secure than Compressive at the same price
The priciest legging, $128 in the US, pitched as a heavyweight, matte, medium-compression legging that doubles as a dressy pant. It averages about 4.6 across roughly 2,500 reviews. The problem is the trend in the low ratings: long-time buyers in December 2024 and November 2025 say the fabric changed to something thinner, shinier and cheaper-feeling than the original, and one curvy buyer could not get her usual size over her hips after buying it final sale. Earlier reviews flagged sheerness. Until the reformulation settles, the Compressive legging is the safer purchase at $20 less.

Watch-outs
The site banner says ‘hassle free returns’, but mail-in refunds lose $7 to a shipping and restocking fee unless you take store credit, exchange or hold a top loyalty tier.
Underwear and socks become final sale after your first purchase, and no underwear can ever be exchanged, so a wrong size is a lost sale.
International buyers in Canada, the UK and Australia cannot exchange at all, pay their own return shipping and do not get duties refunded.
The brand’s own fabric page describes a ‘hydrophilic’ layer as water-resistant, which is backwards; a small error, but on the page meant to build trust in its chemistry.
Sentiment from reviews
On-site reviews are enormous and positive. The Compressive legging and Paloma bra together have over 33,000 reviews averaging around 4.7, and buyers praise the compression, the colour range and sizing that reaches 6XL. Read the one-star filter and three themes recur: sizes running small or inconsistent between styles, bras that do not suit runners or larger busts, and, more recently, a chemical smell on new items.
Trustpilot is a different picture but a thin one: a 3.1 score from a few dozen reviews, only one in the past year, and an unclaimed profile. Most of those complaints concern process rather than product: final-sale leggings that did not fit, washed items refused, orders that took weeks or never arrived, and automated email replies with no phone option. A few long-time customers say the leggings are not what they were.
Alternatives
Lululemon
Pick this if you want stores for fittings, more technical running gear and are fine paying more.
Athleta
Pick this if you want in-person returns and a broad size range from a larger retailer.
Patagonia
Pick this if recycled fabrics matter and you also want a repair-backed outdoor brand.
Verdict
Girlfriend Collective makes a very good everyday legging and bike short, sizes them more inclusively than most, and tells you more about its fabrics than nearly anyone. The friction is around the purchase: a $7 fee on refunds, final-sale underwear, deep-discount stock you cannot return, and support that runs only by email. Buy the Compressive legging or bike short at full price, exchange rather than refund if the size is wrong, and avoid final-sale bargains in untested styles. Verdict: CONSIDER.
